Renew Counseling Center occasionally accepts graduate practicum students from CACREP-accredited counseling programs. Placements are case-by-case based on capacity — reach out early and let's have an honest conversation about fit.
What a practicum at Renew looks like
Real Caseload
You'll work with actual clients under direct supervision — primarily teens, families, and individuals. Renew is not a community mental health agency; it's a private practice with a defined clinical specialty.
Supervision from an LPC-S
Justin Robinson, LPC-S, MAMFT provides individual and group supervision for practicum students placed at Renew. Supervision is substantive — not just documentation management.
Clinical Exposure
Depending on your placement semester and client caseload, you may observe and co-facilitate sessions covering teen anxiety, trauma, family conflict, adolescent depression, grief, behavioral challenges, and more.
Documentation & EHR
Practicum students learn clinical documentation using TherapyNotes, Renew's practice management platform — HIPAA-compliant, streamlined, and the kind of system you'll likely encounter in post-graduation employment.
Faith-Friendly Environment
Renew is a faith-integrated practice. Practicum students of faith will find that their values are respected and welcome. Students who are not people of faith will find a professional, inclusive clinical environment.
About your supervisor
Justin is the founder of Renew Counseling Center and holds both an LPC-S and a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy. He has supervised LPC-Associates and practicum students in a private practice setting focused on teens and families. His supervision style is direct, clinically-focused, and invested in each supervisee's development as a practitioner — not just their hours.

Renew has hosted practicum students from several CACREP-accredited programs across East Texas and the region — including UT Tyler, LeTourneau University, East Texas Baptist University (ETBU), Lamar University, and others.

Practicum requirements & eligibility
To be considered for a practicum placement at Renew, students should meet the following criteria:
- ✓Currently enrolled in a CACREP-accredited counseling program (CMHC, MFT, or related)
- ✓Met all program prerequisites for beginning practicum (typically 2nd or 3rd year)
- ✓Program coordinator can provide confirmation of insurance and program standing
- ✓Available during client hours (evenings and/or weekend hours available)
- ✓Comfortable working with adolescents and families (this is the primary population)
- ✓Aligns with the values and culture of a faith-friendly, teen-focused private practice
Placements are not guaranteed and depend on current capacity. Reach out early — ideally a semester before your intended start date.
