From first contact to your first session — here's the full process.

1

Call (903) 386-3824 or fill out the contact form. You don't need to have everything figured out — just tell us generally what's going on and we'll take it from there.

Free 15-Minute Fit Call

Before scheduling a session, we do a quick Fit Call — a free 15-minute phone conversation with a member of our team. We learn what you're looking for and match you with the right counselor. You get a chance to ask questions and decide if Renew feels right.

No clinical intake at this stage. No commitment. Just a real conversation.

Common Fit Call questions: What's bringing you in? What's most important for your counselor to understand? Have you been in counseling before?
3

Get Matched with the Right Counselor

Based on your situation, preferences, and what you're working on, we match you with a counselor whose training, experience, and style fit your needs. If you'd like input in the process, just say so — we'll walk you through our team and help you choose.

4

Complete Your Portal Paperwork

Once we've confirmed your counselor is a fit — including price and scheduling — we book your intake appointment and send you a link to your patient portal, which runs through TherapyNotes. Everything is electronic: your history form, informed consent, and HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices can all be signed online.

The portal is also where billing gets set up. You'll add a card to keep on file, which draws after each session (automatic withdrawal is available, and cash is welcome too — the card is simply how most clients pay).

Paperwork and billing setup need to be finished before your first session. Most clients complete everything in about 15 minutes.
5

Your First Session

Your first session is about connection, not conclusions. Your counselor will spend time getting to know you and what's brought you in. They'll explain how sessions work, answer your questions, and clarify what confidentiality means.

Nothing about your first session is set in stone. If the fit doesn't feel right, tell us — we'll find a better match.

Ongoing Care

After the first session, you and your counselor establish a schedule that fits your situation. Most clients start bi-weekly, though some begin weekly and others come every 3 weeks or monthly — it depends on what's going on, your goals, and what your life allows. Frequency typically adjusts over time as things improve. You're always in control of your care — you can pause, adjust, or end sessions at any time.

Your patient portal stays your home base after that: schedule or reschedule appointments, send messages to your counselor, and request documentation — and if you do telehealth, the portal is where you log in for your sessions.

What new clients ask most

Renew does not bill insurance directly. Sessions range from $45–$115 depending on your counselor's credential level. We provide superbills — itemized receipts — that you can submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement if your policy covers that. Many clients with PPO plans receive partial reimbursement.
Yes. We can provide a school note when a daytime appointment is needed, explaining your child's absence for a medical/counseling appointment. Just let your counselor know at your first session.
A Fit Call is a free 15-minute phone conversation before you schedule a session. It gives us a chance to understand what's going on and match you with the right counselor — and gives you a chance to ask questions and make sure Renew feels right. It's not required, but most new clients find it makes the whole process easier. And if we're not the right fit, we'll have recommendations ready to point you in the right direction.
That's one of the most common things we hear. Call us anyway — we can talk through how to have that conversation with your teenager and whether there's a way to make the first step less intimidating. Some teens need to know they have a say in who they see; we can accommodate that.
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. EMDR and some specialized sessions may be scheduled for longer. Your counselor will let you know if your specific situation calls for a different session length.
Yes. Renew is a HIPAA-covered entity and all session content is confidential. There are narrow legal exceptions — imminent danger to self or others, child abuse, elder abuse, and court orders — which your counselor will explain in your first session. Outside of those exceptions, what you say in session stays in session.
Yes. Renew offers telehealth counseling to clients throughout Texas via phone and secure video. This is available for most services. Some specialized services may be better suited to in-person sessions — your counselor can advise you.
