"Young children are some of the most resilient people I know. They tell you everything through their play, if you know how to listen. That is what I am here to learn with them."— Caitlyn Walker, Graduate Counselor Intern
Why families choose Caitlyn for play therapy and child counseling
I grew up in Royse City, TX, and knew early on that I had a natural gift for connecting with children and teenagers. That instinct is what led me to counseling. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology (2023) and am completing my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler.
I work with children ages 4 and up and adolescents, using cognitive behavioral techniques and play therapy approaches to help young clients process what they are going through in a way that fits where they are developmentally. For younger kids, I use play to open doors that words cannot always reach. For older teens, I bring warmth and a non-judgmental approach that makes it easier to be honest.
Outside of session, I love wake surfing, hiking, and swimming. I also have a chicken named Elgantine, a detail that tends to go over very well with my younger clients.
I see clients as a graduate counselor intern, which means I am not yet independently licensed — and it also means all of my clinical work is supervised by Kimberly Reagan, LPC-S, so my clients get my care and energy backed by experienced clinical oversight. At $45 per session, I also have one of the most accessible rates on the Renew team, which keeps quality counseling within reach for more families in East Texas.
I see families from Longview, Tyler, Marshall, Kilgore, Henderson, White Oak, Hallsville, Gilmer, and surrounding East Texas communities. Telehealth extends my reach to clients throughout Texas.
Caitlyn's approach
My approach is gentle, compassionate, and holistic. I meet each client where they are, whether that's a 4-year-old who communicates through play or a 16-year-old who needs someone to actually listen without judgment. I use cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and play therapy strategies to engage younger children in ways that feel natural and safe.
I believe children and teenagers are some of the most courageous people I know. The bravery it takes to come to counseling is not lost on me, and I bring that respect into every session.
With younger clients I am gentle and playful, and I meet kids where they are. With older teens I am warm and non-judgmental. The first session is low-pressure: we talk about what's going on, what your child enjoys, and what you're hoping for. There is no pressure to share more than you're ready for. The goal is to leave feeling comfortable, not evaluated.
