“For adolescents especially, I want therapy to be a place where they can genuinely be themselves without feeling pressured to have everything figured out.”— Danelle Van Dyk, Graduate Counselor Intern
Why teens, young adults & couples choose Danelle
I believe reaching out for counseling can be one of the hardest steps a person takes. My goal is to make that step feel a little less intimidating by creating a space where clients feel heard, respected, and accepted while developing the tools they need to navigate life with greater confidence.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and am completing my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Texas at Tyler, with an expected graduation of December 2026.
My clinical experience includes working with individuals navigating trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, difficult relationships, substance use, and other challenging life experiences. I have a particular interest in working with adolescents, young adults, and couples as they navigate relationships, life transitions, and emotional challenges.
I primarily use a person-centered and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) approach, combining a strong therapeutic relationship with practical tools to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. When appropriate, I also incorporate trauma-informed principles to help clients understand how past experiences may continue to shape their lives.
I see clients as a graduate counselor intern under the supervision of Kimberly Reagan, LPC-S. I work with clients throughout East Texas, including Longview, Tyler, Marshall, Kilgore, Henderson, White Oak, Hallsville, Gilmer, and surrounding communities. Telehealth extends my reach to clients throughout Texas.
Outside of counseling, I’m a dog mom who loves spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, getting outdoors, and finding a good coffee shop.
Danelle’s approach
My approach is warm, collaborative, and person-centered. I don’t believe there is a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. Every client brings their own experiences, strengths, and goals into the room, and I believe counseling should meet them where they are.
For adolescents especially, I want therapy to be a place where they can genuinely be themselves without feeling pressured to have everything figured out. Whether a client needs someone to listen, help make sense of what they’re experiencing, or develop practical ways to cope, we can start wherever they are.
Above all, I want clients to feel understood rather than judged and empowered rather than told what they “should” do. My hope is that clients leave counseling with a deeper understanding of themselves, greater confidence in navigating difficult emotions, and the tools to build the life and relationships they want.
