"I spent years inside East Texas schools before private practice. I know what the world actually looks like for these teenagers. That changes everything about how I work with them."— Emily Lansdale, LPC
Why parents trust Emily with teen anxiety and trauma
I spent years inside East Texas schools before I ever set foot in a private practice. I worked as a school counselor at Hallsville High School, Robert E. Lee Senior High School, and Hallsville ISD, and what I saw there shaped everything about how I counsel today.
I sat with teenagers who were carrying things that had nothing to do with their GPA. I watched families navigate real hardship with very few resources and no clear road map. I learned, up close, how much the environment a teenager lives in shapes the way they experience their own emotions. That kind of understanding does not come from a textbook. It changes the way you show up for someone.
I am calm and unhurried in my work. I am not trying to get to a fast answer. I want to understand what is underneath — the patterns, the history, the ways a person has learned to protect themselves — and then build from there. I draw on CBT and Trauma-Focused Therapy, but the care matters as much as the technique.
I work with teens, young adults, and adults navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and addiction. If your teenager has been struggling for a while and has already tried things that did not quite work, I would love to be next on your list.
Emily's approach
I approach counseling with an evidence-based framework — primarily CBT and Trauma-Focused Therapy — but I don't stop at the surface. My goal is to help clients understand the underlying patterns driving what they're experiencing, not just cope with symptoms.
My school counseling background informs how I work with teenagers in particular. I understand the institutional pressures, social dynamics, and resource gaps in East Texas schools, and I know how to separate what's environmental from what's clinical.
Expect a first session that goes deep. I want to understand not just what's happening, but why, and what shaped the patterns you're dealing with now. If your teen has a school counseling history, I'll ask about it — it informs my whole approach. You'll leave with a clear clinical picture and a direction forward.
