"Counseling should be a place where kids can be themselves — without feeling pressured to have the right words for what they’re experiencing."— Macy Chambers, Graduate Counselor Intern
Why families choose Macy for play therapy and child counseling
I have always had a heart for helping children and adolescents through the hardships they face growing up. Difficult moments in my own life helped me recognize how many young people are carrying emotions and experiences they don’t yet have the words for — that realization is what led me to counseling, and it still shapes how I connect with young clients today. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Tyler and am completing my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at LeTourneau University, with an expected graduation of December 2026.
I work with children and adolescents navigating trauma, anxiety, stress, and other difficult life experiences — using trauma-informed care, play therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help young clients understand their emotions, process what they’ve been through, and build healthy ways to cope. Children often communicate what they’re experiencing differently than adults do, and counseling should meet them where they are developmentally rather than expecting them to explain exactly what they think or feel.
Outside of counseling, I’m a wife and mom, and time with my family is what I value most. I love baking, tending my garden, and being outdoors.
I see clients as a graduate counselor intern, which means I am not yet independently licensed. All of my clinical work is supervised by Kimberly Reagan, LPC-S — so the families I work with have experienced clinical oversight behind every session.
I see families from Longview, Tyler, Marshall, Kilgore, Henderson, White Oak, Hallsville, Gilmer, and surrounding East Texas communities. Telehealth extends my reach to clients throughout Texas.
Macy's approach
My approach is compassionate, calm, and inviting. I want children and adolescents to feel that counseling is a place where they can be themselves, without feeling pressured to immediately have the right words for what they’re experiencing. Sometimes that means talking; sometimes it means play or other developmentally appropriate ways to express what’s hard to put into words.
I work through a trauma-informed lens — behavior and emotions usually make more sense once we understand what a child has experienced and how they’ve learned to respond to the world around them. I also draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help young clients recognize the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors while developing healthier ways to navigate difficult feelings and situations.
For families who would like faith to be part of the counseling process, I’m comfortable integrating a Christian perspective. Faith is always incorporated based on each client’s preferences and goals — present when it’s wanted, absent when it’s not.
